The waiting for foals is prolonged. Nearly all mares are "overdue" by at least a fortnight, some (like Genevieve) even a month. Nature takes its course, lots of frosts during winter and no spring flush due to a very dry September, but the recent rain shall make the grass grow.
However we are delighted with our four arrivals so far. Two more to go! We are particularly looking forward to the foal of Dynastey, which was due 27/10/01. This foal will have the majestic pedigree of WORLDWIDE / DYNAMIT / DISTELFINK / WINNEBAGO.
Our theory that WORLDWIDE PB Weltmeyer/Brentano II) over DYNAMIT (Dynamo / Eger II) mares with a background of Genius, Witzbold, Winnebago, Distelfink & Anamour has resulted in fantastic results. That is of course in the Vollrath view!
For further info about the new arrivals at Vollrath please go here.
After two crops of foals Vollrath Hanoverian Stud's stallion WORLDWIDE P.B. can safely be called a "Stempelhengst", as he leaves without fail his indelible mark - looks, temperament and movement - on his progeny.
The 2000 season started nicely with a reasonable book for Worldwide.
He served 23 mares, managing to get all our own mares in foal - three of which are by Dynamit/Genius and Dynamit/Distelfink.
Then disaster struck in late October. Worldwide showed lameness and was taken in due course to Massey University, where nerve blocks and consequent x-rays revealed that he had fractured his near hind pastern.
This was obviously the end of the season 2000. Five months of restful care saw the stallion bounce back, now much stronger and more mature - the boy has turned into a man.
The 2001 bookings for Worldwide are very pleasing; we hope to mix his duty to his mares with the pleasure of Jutta Rosenblatt competing him in Dressage.
This took place in March 2001 at Bilbar Lodge. Just 30 months old, splendidly presented by Jutta Rosenblatt he showed himself off and Herr Lopp gave this report:
"The young stallion is very well developed and has a striking head. However still a little lacking the stallion expression (two year old!). He is endowed with a nice long, well-muscled neck and a clearly defined wither reaching far in to the back.
His saddle position and shoulder are well developed; showing a big frame with long, clear lines. His front legs are strong and well formed, and his hind legs are correct with powerful hocks.
The breed type is clearly recognizable. He shows elasticity and good freedom of the shoulder as well as a confident ground-covering walk.
Overall impression: A well-framed, strong and well-muscled young stallion on solid foundation with ground-covering walk. Elastic trot and good freedom of the shoulder."
Needless to say how pleased we were with this assessment. Dornkaat is jet black with four white stockings and he already has developed into a real athlete. Jutta will manifest his already decent manners - going under saddle by the end of this summer.
All things being equal he will stand at stud in 2002.
Dornkaat - a true successor to his father Dynamit.
He is a chestnut, 17.2 hh, born 6.9.89 by WINTERKÖNIG (Wörmann/Pik König/Wolfsburg) out of State-premium-mare WOLFSANGEL (Wolfsburg/Absatz/Monitor xx).
Weserwolf is the ideal stallion to be paired with TB mares!
VOLLRATH DOPPELGANGER ridden by Jutta Rosenblatt has achieved a wonderful feat. Reserve Champion at the Nationals in Novice Dressage After the outings at the Taranaki Dressage Champs in Hawera, the Central District Champs at Tielcey Park, Palmerston/North and the Wellington Area Dressage Champs in Levin. Jutta travelled with Doppelganger to Taupo to the National Dressage Champs where he won the rosette for second place.
The young Dynamit offspring did score well in the qualifying rounds:
And the Finals on Sunday as far as Dynamit progeny go:
It is very pleasing for Vollrath to have so many placings at the National Dressage Champs.
2. Dornkaat passes inspection
Vollrath's young Dynamit Colt DORNKAAT was taken on 13.3.2001 to be inspected by Herrn Manfred Lopp (Head Saddle Master for 30 years at the Stallion Performance Testing Station at Adelheidsdorf in Germany).
Dornkaat was found very suitable for breeding and was declared as future sire of great calibre. He will be most probably a very good match for our NZ Thoroughbred mares.
3. Worldwide P.B. has got a WoF again!
10.03.2001 further X rays were taken to determine the progress on WW injury.
Hurray - he has been cleared for normal work again. A relief for everyone caring for the good boy.
The 1st X-ray a fortnight ago showed still a very faint line where the fracture used to be. As WW however was outgrowing his skin and his box we thought it was a good idea to reintroduce him to the saddle.
This was Doppelganger's first time out in dressage competition. As we had no idea how he would perform, Jutta entered (although flying changes & haunches in are established) him in preliminary for a win and three second placings.
