Lessing, in quarantine, Dec 04 Jutta and Val viewing Lessing

Lessing arrived on 7.12.04 at the NZ Quarantine Station Karaka, where he will spend 14 days transition into New Zealand. The 22-month-old colt had travelled well from England where he was clipped in preparation for the climate change in NZ.

Jutta and Berny travelled up to see him on 13.12.04 and a day later a few friends had the pleasure to have a wee peep through the rails at Lessing, when he was released for his daily two hour exercise into "his" quarantine paddock.

The verdict was unanimous: "He is beautiful!"

He is expected at Vollrath Stud on 22nd or 23rd - just in time for the most special Christmas present.

The 2004 Adelheidsdorf Stallion Performance test had 33 young stallions competing for the placings:

  • Londonderry was represented by five colts and he produced the winner in Liberty Gold out of a Weltmeyer mare with a score of 140,93; 3rd was Locksley also out of a Weltmeyer mare with a score of 123,29; 9th was Lauscher and 17th was Lesieux; both have Weltmeyer blood in the dam line; and 20th was Lacruso by Dakar ex an Argentan mare.
  • Five 30 months old LONDONDERRY colts passed (three of them with a premium) the Stallion Licensing in Verden in October. Again Weltmeyer blood on the damline was prominent.
  • The 2004 German Federal Championship for riding horses was won by the 3 yr old filly La Perla by Londonderry/Weltmeyer. In the 4 yr old class the mare Liaison by Londonderry/Gralswaechter was Vice Champion.
  • This shows that the blood combination of LONDONDERRY - WELTMEYER produces equine athletes. At Vollrath we are quite confident that the next generation of LESSING over WORLDWIDE mares will give us equally potent sporthorses.

November 5, 2004

I left for Germany in September to celebrate my Mum's 85th Birthday.

Of course one must go and have a look once you are in the 'Motherland' of the Warmblood Horses but I had not even spent a thought on what was to hit me, when I looked at seven two year old Hanoverian colts playing in a paddock of Werner and Liselotte Heitgress (the breeders of our stallion WORLDWIDE pb). That evening I did not go home - we spent a long time looking and evaluating pedigrees in particular, how the blood lines would complement existing blood in New Zealand.

Guess it was my luck that the colt I liked very much in the paddock (without knowing his bloodlines) turned out to be the ideal match for all existing Warmblood lines in our country.

The purchase price was negotiated and the necessary wheels set in motion - leaving us now in waiting for a beautiful Christmas present and that not just for Vollrath Stud, but all New Zealand.

May 2004

Wie WeltmeyerThe World Breeding Ranking Dressage shows the Stallion "WIE WELTMEYER" in 3rd place. Wie Weltmeyer is by WELTMEYER (grand sire of Vollrath's WORLDWIDE PB), out of a mare by DYNAMO (sire of Vollrath's foundation stallion DYNAMIT ).

Vollrath Stud is very pleased about this as we have youngsters of this bloodline combination in our paddocks. Go to our sales page to see Worldnews - Winnetou - Wedekind and the weanling Wolke.

March 2004

Dornkaat Vollrath Dornkaat had qualified in two preceding tournaments in Taihape/Tielcey Park and in Taupo itself with an average score of 73.5% to enter the Horsepower Young Dressage Horse 5 year olds at the National Dressage Champs in Taupo.

He was in a class of 15 competitors of which he was awarded a third place in the finals on 14-03-2004.

At the HOY tournament Jutta competed Dornkaat in "Novice Musical Freestyle", which was a bit daunting for his first event (62.5%). The next day he was more settled (67.5%) - 3rd place in the warm-up class.

In the "Title Class" Novice 2.6 he scored a 2nd place despite course error (66.91%). This put him into 7th place overall.

We are very pound of his achievement in his first year of competition and his next step will be an introduction to jumping by the Olympic rider Greg Best.

Dornkaat's introduction to jumping

February 2004

Considering the magnitude of the recent storm we got off very lightly. All up 12 trees were down. Around the house a large very old Walnut tree, an Apple and Pear tree. Fortunately nothing hit the house. Except for a lot of chainsaw work and consequently the clean up - we have a lot of fire wood now - nothing else suffered. All stock survived without a scratch. Unfortunately we lost a huge - at least 100 years old Pine tree - it got washed out from its bank by a river that had risen by 6m over night. Looking at it now, it seems to be an ideal crossing for the possums. The Worldwide youngsters in that paddock seemed to have taken no offence to the weather but rather enjoyed the temporary change in their habitat.
