Norwood Manawatu 2012 North Island Championships

Sunday 8 January - Champions and reserves 2012:

Level 1 DRESSAGE CENTRAL DISTRICTS TROPHY 1st: Rosanne Rix Lindisfarne Laureate (Lessing ex Wicked by Worldwide PB/Genius/Aureatte II xx)
Reserve: Ingrid Anderson, All Amour

Level 5 DALVEY TROPHY
1st: Jutta Rosenblatt Vollrath Lessing (Londonderry/ Prince Thatch xx)
Reserve: Susan Tomlin, Giusto MH

NZ HANOVERIAN SOCIETY BEST PERFORMED HANOVERIAN
Level 4 and above: Jutta Rosenblatt Vollrath Lessing Level 5

Level 1-3: Ingrid Anderson All Amour Level 1

Level 1-3 ... this should be Lindisfarne Laureate as the filly clearly beat All Amour by 5.7 - 13%, however 'HSNZ' politics ... a V-branded horse is definitely a Hanoverian!

This proves quite clearly that the H-brand does not necessarily make the better horse.

Amazing as there is hardly a deeper bred Hanoverian than LATIMER competing. But that's "politics"!

We at Vollrath are very pleased that the 'V" brand beats the "H" where it counts.

Lizzie (Lessing/Wohler II/The Birdman xx), owned by Christina Stratford, was shown in the in-hand section at the Manawatu A&P on November 5. Her results were:

  • she got 1st in Colt, filly or gelding yearling,
  • 3rd in Best warmblood any age
  • and Reserve Champion young stock in hand,
Christina writes: "I was so proud of her, we walked amongst the big rides, past Llamas on leads, kids with balloons and grunting tractors, she wasn't fazed by anything. Such a beautiful wee girl. A lot of people commented how quiet and well behaved she is, we are really enjoying having her around."

What a couple of days it has been at the

Denis Reichenbach
Dressage Wellington Championships
29-30 October 2011
Foxton Racecourse

Vollrath Hanoverian bloodlines were successfully represented at this show, in particular through the progeny of our stallion Lessing. Four were bred out of Vollrath Stud mares by the stallions Genius, Dynamit, Worldwide pb.

Jutta and Liaison's haul from the show - three first placings, one third, and the cup and rug for champion.
It was their first outing together.

Of course due to their ages it was only the entry level of competition with the exception of two Worldwide pb offspring (Worldman and Waldfee).

The tournament had a large number of entries.

Click to read "Lessing on top":

Lessing and his offspring Le Vivre had a very good outing at the Central Districts Dressage Tournament in Feilding on 22/23-01-2011.

Results:
Vollrath Lessing ridden by Jutta Rosenblatt:
Level 5 Dressage Champion and winner of the Dalvey Trophy
Jutta rode four tests with her highest mark 72% in test 5.2.

Lessing was awarded this Sash from the NZHS as the highest scoring 'pink papered Hanoverian' of the Tournament.

And CONGRATULATIONS Paula Brown!

At only four years old, Vollrath Le Vivre (Lessing/Genevieve by Genius), with owner/rider Paula Brown, was named the Level 1 Dressage Champion and winner of the CD Trophy.

This young gelding had three first placings and one second, with scores from 70% to 73.846% in his four tests, to easily win the championship.

That's exactly we at Vollrath are waiting for ... Lessing's offspring showing what he can produce ... Lessing is certainly is fulfilling our expectations.

December 28, 2010

Vollrath Latimer had been turned out for four weeks, and Rochelle Speirs brought him in especially for the Manawatu in Hand breeders show.

"We had a great day with much success," she reported!

  • 3rd Care and Attention
  • 1st Sport horse 3yr old Colt Filly or Gelding
    Champion young sport horse
  • 1st Horse any age suitable for showing
  • 1st Horse any age suitable for dressage
  • 1st Best paced
  • 1st Best Registered Warmblood
    Champion Suitability Horse
    Grand Champion Sport Horse

March 30, 2010

After Lessing's amazing win of the Young Dressage Horse title in 2008 he did not compete in 2009 but concentrated on serving mares and his schooling for the 2010 season.

From out of nowhere Lessing under his trainer / rider Jutta Rosenblatt entered the competition arena at Level 4 in 2010:

  • North Island Reserve Champion
  • Central District Champion
  • National Dressage Reserve Champion
  • HoY Reserve Champion

All test were in the high 60 - early 70% and there was never much between the Champion and the Reserve.

Jutta was extremely pleased with Lessing's 'consistency' and in particular the way he took the "HoY atmosphere" in his stride, hence we are very confident at Vollrath the next season will give us the next step 'up' on the ladder!

Jutta and Lessing at the 2010 Horse of the Year show. © MAGGIE BROEKMAN

Jutta has just started Lessing's first 3yr old - and Lauretta is showing all that she promised as a weanling.

Her movement is powerful yet elegant with tons of suspension and forward movement superbly enhanced with a calm temperament and willingness to work.

So Berny seems to be correct with his assessment that Lessing would be the ideal stallion to cover Vollrath mares!

Worldwide with Claire Seidl-Wickens.
Our former stallion Worldwide is enjoying high-level success with his new owner, Claire Seidl-Wickens, in Australia.

Worldwide has been awarded full approval as a Hanoverian breeding stallion, achieved through his performances in dressage. He had to place in the top three in five Official Prix St George competitions, and obtain marks of over 55%.

That he has done, and on May 7 at the Sydney CDI three-star competition Worldwide again performed consistently. He won the Prix St Georges class, with a percentage of 65.175 and the Advanced Freestyle with 68.417%. He also placed fifth in the Advanced 5.3 with 64.065%, and sixth in the Advanced 5.4 with 63.810%.

A Dynamic win for Stanford

The newcomer to Grand Prix classes showed she has what it takes by winning the Grand Prix at the Auckland Showjumping Show.

Sandra Stanford (Whagaparoa) aboard Aero Dynamic, who were only competing in their fourth ever Grand Prix, were the only clear in the jump off. Beating off more experienced riders, including Olympic representative, Kate McVean, who took out three of the top six placings.

Stanford has brought the Dynamit gelding on from a youngster, and although they have had some testing times Stanford's ability and patience has certainly paid off.

Sandra adds the below information:

Hi again Berny,

I have some even more exciting news for you about Aero ...

On Saturday we won the 1.35m Power and Speed class and Sunday won the Grand Prix at Auckland Show Jumping in Pukekohe ... amazing rides on him and such a star pony.

I can't thank you enough ... without Dynamit I couldn't have had such a precious pony!

At the HoY 2008 Vollrath Lessing won his class 508 (Stallion for breeding performance bred horses) and was also crowned "Reserve Champion" of the 4 yr old and over Performance bred led sport horses.

This was the only entry for Lessing at the HoY with the purpose to expose him to the 'atmosphere' of such a great show.

He had was totally "cool" and very responsive to Jutta's commands = simply perfectly behaved!

March, 2008

We have done it (again)!

Jutta rode Lessing to the National Champion of Champions Young Dressage Horse for 2008 title.

I share this success because I spotted the 'little' fellow when he was 18 months old and brought him back to NZ from Germany.

He was a rough diamond which Jutta polished with great ability to a nice shining one now.

The Judges were from Australia (Maria Schwennesen), Canada's FEI international "O" Judge Kara Whitham.

February, 2008

On his very first outing (9-10 Feb 08 Tielcey Park) Winnetou scored the "Reserve Championship" after four "Novice tests" in which had the following scores:
Second level tests
2:1 = 64.583
2:2 = 67.097
2:3 = 66.25
2:4 = 68.462

He received repeatedly "8" for 'working trot' and 8 & 7 for his 'paces'.

His worst score was a '6' being a little 'unbalanced coming down the centre line for the final salute'.

Needless to say that Jutta was very pleased with their 'team performance' and in particular as Winnetou showed his perfect temperament and willingness to work!

The weather at Tielcey Park was actually disgustingly hot and humid. Compliments to all the riders coping so well!

31 January, 2007

Alex had a great weekend winning 2 Hack National Titles; Preliminary Champion on her 6 year old mare Ruby (Wandering Star by Worldwide p.b. /Genius/Rocky Mountain xx) and Open Medium Champion on her 14 year old gelding Extra (Orana Australis).

Alex was also selected with Ali Jones from Wellington to compete against two South Island riders in a North Island v South Island Derby. Alex and Ali won the Derby.

Jutta competed the Stallion successfully at Prix St George Level in 2005. Worldwide will not be competed in the future - he will have to concentrate fully on his Stud duties.

Berny and Jutta are looking forward to bringing on their new three-year-old black Hanoverian Stallion Lessing (imp Germany) and one of Worldwide's progeny, four-year-old black gelding Winnetou, who shows by all accounts a huge talent for the dressage arena.

He was in a class of 15 competitors of which he was awarded a third place in the finals on 14-03-2004.

At the HOY tournament Jutta competed Dornkaat in "Novice Musical Freestyle", which was a bit daunting for his first event (62.5%). The next day he was more settled (67.5%) - 3rd place in the warm-up class.

In the "Title Class" Novice 2.6 he scored a 2nd place despite course error (66.91%). This put him into 7th place overall.

Doppelganger finds a new home

VOLLRATH DOPPELGANGER ridden by Jutta Rosenblatt has achieved a wonderful feat. Reserve Champion at the Nationals in Novice Dressage After the outings at the Taranaki Dressage Champs in Hawera, the Central District Champs at Tielcey Park, Palmerston/North and the Wellington Area Dressage Champs in Levin. Jutta travelled with Doppelganger to Taupo to the National Dressage Champs where he score the very much-wanted Rosette for Second Place.

Well done Jutta Rosenblatt, great success! And as Doppelganger was on the market a very keen Leah Sinclair from Invercargill purchased him.

The young Dynamit offspring did score well in the qualifying rounds:

  • Novice 2.4
    • 1st with 72.58% Doppelganger
    • 2nd with 68.06% Felicity Hart on Davanti C by Dynamit
  • Elem. 3.4
    • 1st with 69.32% Stephanie Tovey on Dominik T by Dynamit
  • Elem. 3.6
3rd with 63.21% Kim Whitelegg on Doonaboggo by Dynamit

And the Finals on Sunday as far as Dynamit progeny go:

  • Novice 2.5
    • 2nd with 66.54% Doppelganger who took also the 2nd place in the points table with a score of 66.5
  • Elem. 3.5
    • 1st with 64.79% Diane Grant on Danielle by Dynamit
    • 3rd with 64.31% Stephanie Tovey on Dominik T.
As one can see, it was a tight competition.

It is very pleasing for Vollrath to have so many placings at the National Dressage Champs.

January 10, 2001

Vollrath had a good weekend at the Dressage Tournament at the Taranaki Dressage Championships in Hawera last weekend (6-7 Jan).

This was Doppelganger's first time out in dressage competition. As we had no idea how he would perform, Jutta entered (although flying changes & haunches in are established) him in preliminary for a win and three second placings.

More on Doppelganger.

December 1, 2000
Some very good news from the FEI World Dressage Challenge, at McLean's Island, Christchurch, this weekend.
Several horses bred at Vollrath have been very nicely placed at the event so far:

Novice FEI Challenge:  1st -- Laurel Cross (NZL) 69% on DAMASK by Dynamit ex Ludenstar
Children's FEI Challenge:  4th - Cathryn Johnston (Hong Kong) 66% on VOLLRATH DAVID by Danzig (Distelfink) ex Gretel (Witzbold). Vollrath David was the winner of the Hong Kong section. Danzig was gelded and sold as a S/J to Japan.
FEI Dressage Team Classification: 1st - NZL 195.43 - four members  of which two horses are by DYNAMIT -- Damask 69% & Wistow Iman 58.6 % (ridden by Sharon Inwood)

In the able hands of Jutta Rosenblatt - the young stallion Worldwide PB has made tremendous progress in very short time. He was crowned National Novice dressage champion in 2000. Worldwide

GV Braveheart

On 20/11/1987 - a chestnut colt (Distelfink - Paratata xx by Aureatte II xx) was born at Vollrath. We called him Drago, in honour of Berny's good friend Dargo Mestrovic, who had suddenly died in Germany.

Drago was duly broken in and sold to a rider (to remain unnamed) who could not get along with him. Eric Ropiha got involved and Drago ended up with Catroina Williams (nee McLeod) who rode him in his first year to gain the title of "Young Eventer of the Year", however under the name of Distance.

He was sold on to Australia and after another name change to "GV Braveheart" - he achieved under Olivia Bunn an individual 8th place in Eventing (and the best performed Australian Horse) at the World Equestrian Games 1998 in Rome.
